Starting April 5th, 2024, Museum Road will be closed between between Route 208 and Old Mansion Road. This closure will be in effect until September 2024 to allow for road work, the replacement of the stream crossing and gas main work. Hikers should be prepared to take a detour around the worksite. The detour is approximately 2 miles.
Detour Details for the Long Path (north bound) and Highlands Trail (south bound):
- Turn south at the intersection with Rt 208 and proceed for 0.4 miles, crossing the Rt 17 Overpass.
- Turn right onto a gravel road and proceed along the side of the reservoir for 0.3 miles to Orange & Rockland Rd.
- Turn left and proceed south on Orange and Rockland Rd for about 150 ft then turn right into Town of Monroe O&R Park.
- Proceed through the Park to the South Orange Family YMCA and go through to the parking lot around the back of the facility.
- Turn right to access the Orange County Heritage Trail. Follow this north to rejoin the Long Path and Highlands Trail.
