April 22, 2020

Updated January 30, 2021

The Open Space Institute (OSI) is working with the park on a number of projects in Fahnestock State Park.

Ongoing projects:

  • Hubbard Perkins Loop Trail: Sections of School Mountain Road, the Hubbard Loop, the Clove Creek Trail, the Fahnestock Trail, the Perkins Trail, and the Wiccopee trail are being realigned and restored to form a new loop trail. The project includes a number of new bridges, some new trail sections, and improved signage. Work is now in progress and is expected to continue in phases through 2021 and 2022. Some trail sections will be closed from time to time for construction.

Completed projects:

  • New Central Trailhead and Park Access: A new park road Big Woods Drive has been constructed north from Rt. 301 to a 25-car parking lot located near the junction of the Perkins and Cabot trails, which have been rerouted and improved in this area.
  • Appalachian Trail Improvements: A new 15-car parking area has been constructed where the Appalachian Trail crosses Rt. 301 and the road crossing for the trail has been improved for greater safety.
