Corridor monitoring helps to protect the land that the Appalachian Trail passes through, including the boundary of the property it occupies.
This course will help you to gain or improve upon the skills necessary to become a Trail Conference Corridor Monitor. The class will train those attending on (1) how to locate the A.T. Corridor boundary, which consists of surveyed property lines with monuments at each corner and marked trees on or near the boundary line, (2) using maps and portable technology to assist in locating the monuments, (3) looking for incursions into the Corridor (such as dumping, timber theft, etc.), (4) how to perform boundary maintenance, such as freshening the paint on the boundary trees, and (5) reporting the work done to the supervisors, the NYNJ Trail Conference, and the Appalachian Trail Conservancy.
