Trail U 561 - Stonework for Trail Work
In this two-day technical rock work course, students will learn how to set stones, construct stone crib/retaining walls, and install rock steps to help prevent erosion on steeply graded trails. Topics include how to set a base tier, achieving solid points of contact, avoiding running joints, and proper backfilling for walls. Use rock bars, pick mattocks, and mash hammers while utilizing native fieldstone as a building material. The course also includes an introduction to basic stone shaping hammers and their aid in the construction process.
