Kakiat Park closed 7/15-8/30/2009

Body

Pomona, NY – The Rockland County Division of Environmental Resources announces that Kakiat Park in Montebello is about to undergo a number of significant improvements – including the replacement of wooden footbridges – and will be closed to the public temporarily.

Beginning next week, construction will take place at the park lasting until approximately mid-September 2009, weather permitting. The main purpose of the capital project is the replacement of the two existing wooden footbridges that span the Mahwah River with a single pre-fabricated wooden footbridge that will allow handicapped accessibility to the park and will be compliant with floodplain regulations. In addition, a pre-engineered vaulted comfort station will also be installed in the main parking area. Other work includes parking area improvements and the addition of handicapped parking spaces.
