The National Trails Day event co-hosted by REI and the Trail Conference will take place on the Appalachian Trail at Bear Mountain State Park—the very first section of the A.T. built 95 years ago by Trail Conference volunteers. On June 2 from 10:00AM. to 2:00PM we’ll be making a difference along this historic section of trail, from the bottom of Bear Mountain to its summit. There will be stewardship activities for every age, skill-level, and interest, including trail building and old trail closure, invasive species identification and removal, native plant gardening and litter clean-up. A day of good work outside is best rewarded with our version of  “happy hour.” Stay for lunch and a chance to win REI gear as a token of our appreciation for your dedication to this treasured outdoor destination.

All volunteers are welcome to an REI stewardship t-shirt. Please dress for a day in the outdoors - clothes/footwear to get dirty, long sleeves & pants, closed-toe footwear (boots/sneakers), hat, sunglasses, sunblock, snacks for the day, water bottle, and a day pack. Volunteers will be required to wear personal protective equipment, provided by the Trail Conference.

National Trails Day, sponsored by the American Hiking Society, is an annual event that inspires the public from coast to coast to discover, learn about, and celebrate trails while participating in outdoor activities, clinics, and trail stewardship projects. And in 2018, America is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the National Trails System Act, as well as the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act. We invite you to join the trail work party at Bear Mountain on June 2 to show everyone your passion for the outdoors.

We hope to see you on the trail!
